There’s a difficult thing that you’ve been wanting to do that is at your limit. Do it.
Want to get on those bike trails? Want to go to the party on Friday and not drink? Want to do a TED talk? Want to try a power yoga class? Want to believe something new about yourself? Want to stop telling your old stories about how ugly, fat, stupid and unloveable you are? Want to tell a new story about HOW POWERFUL YOU REALLY ARE?
What is that scary thing that you keep putting off?
Do it.
You want to do it, right? If not, forget about it.
Oh wait… can’t forget about it? Ready to try? Will you let me guide you?
Good. I love you. Here’s where we begin:
Just Do It.
Oh, my love!!! Oh my gosh! Of course you’re scared!
Do it even though you are scared. Yes. Yes, you can.
Do it. Cry. Lose it. Throw a tantrum. Go home and sob. You’re ok.
Do it again. Beat yourself up for sucking at it. Then, apologize to yourself.
Do it again. Cry again. You’re ok.
Do it again. Whimper. You’re ok.
Do it again. Tremble. You’re ok.
Do it again. Shake. You’re ok.
Do it again. Trying. You’re ok.
Do it again. Trying. You’re ok.
Do it again. Getting better. You’re ok.
Do it again. Getting better. You’re ok.
Do it again. Getting better. You’re ok.
Do it again. Even better. You’re ok.
Do it again. Even better. You’re ok.
Do it again. Even better. You’re ok.
Do it again. Getting it. You’re ok.
Do it again. Getting it. You’re ok.
Do it again. Getting it. You’re ok.
Do it again. Doing it. You’re ok.
Do it again. Doing it. You’re ok.
Do it again. Doing it. You’re ok.
Do it again. Better.
Do it again. Better.
Do it again. Better.
Do it again. Hey…
Do it again. This…
Do it again. Could…
Do it again. Be…
Do it again. Fun…
Do it again. This might be fun.
Do it again. This might be fun.
Do it again. This is kind of fun.
Do it again. Yeah, kind of fun.
Do it again. More fun.
Do it again. More fun.
Do it again. Screw up. Aw, shit. This might not be fun. But it’s ok.
Think about doing it again. You know you can.
Do it again. Doing it. You’re ok.
Do it again. Doing it. You’re ok.
Do it again. Yeah, kind of fun.
Do it again. More fun.
Do it again. Fun.
Do it again. Screw up. Laugh. You’re getting so much better!
Do it again. Laugh. Yeah, you’re definitely better at this.
Do it again. Laugh. Fun.
Do it again. Yeah…
Do it again. Yeah…
Do it again. Yeah!
Do it again. Definitely fun.
Do it again. Bring your friend, the one who is scared.
Tell her, “Hey, I love you. Let’s do this together. Ready?”
She’ll say, “No. I’m scared.”
You’ll say, “You know what, gorgeous? I love you. You can do it. And then, you can cry. You can pitch a fit. You can throw a tantrum. You can lose it. Go home and sob. No problem!!! I know you’re ok. And then, let’s do it again.”
Beautiful reader: I’m going to improve that Nike slogan to this: JUST DO IT AGAIN. Do it again. Do it again. No, it’s not always pretty out there at your limit. Why? Because your limit is where you find the version of yourself you don’t like. The ugly crying, shaking, scared little kid version of yourself. The one you don’t want ANYONE to see. The one you’re embarrassed about because OH MY GOD WHY CAN’T YOU GROW UP?
Out at your limit is the scared inner child you try to hide.
Hey gorgeous, you know what? Maybe you can choose to treat that sobbing mess of a child with love. You can choose to meet your young soul with compassion. You can be your own sweet mother and encouraging coach and supportive, cheering friend. You can finally accept yourself.
Then you know what happens? You do grow up. And you grow SO. MUCH. STRONGER.
Hey, boo… There’s a difficult thing that you’ve been wanting to do that is at your limit.
Do it.
Love yourself for doing it over and over again.
You do difficult things. You do them again. LOOK HOW POWERFUL YOU REALLY ARE.
How ya like you now?
